Neversong (Once Upon A Coma) – From The Creator of Pinstripe

Created by Thomas Brush

Once upon a time there was a boy named Pete who slept quietly in a coma. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a nightmare.

Help Me Name The Card Game In Coma! / How I Make Games For Xbox and PS4
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 13, 2018 at 12:10:37 AM

So, in Coma, Pete collects what me and Erik call Coma Cards. They are little cards that Pete and his friends hand-made, kind of like Pokemon or Pogs. What do you think I should name them? Click below to Tweet me your ideas!

Making-Of: What It Takes To Make an Xbox & PS4 Game

As many of you know, the final days of a Kickstarter campaign are typically as active as the first couple days! Believe it or not, I have a feeling we're going to hit the stretch goal of $95,000 for Xbox and PS4. So I thought I'd give you all a run-down of how Coma can be ported to PS4 and Xbox. Thoughts some of you might be interested in the process!

  • The game is first created in Unity, and ported to Xbox and PS4!
  • Then something called a "dev kit" is secured, both by Xbox and PS4. These are purchased :D
  • After the dev kits arrive, I'm able to connect my ethernet to the dev kit, and test the game. Usually plenty of little bugs pop-up!
  • After the game is tested on my end, I hire a small QA company to test on all models and modes. It's a lengthy process!
  • After it's tested, I go through what's called the Certification Checklist. Sony and MS have their own versions, and are super extensive. These ensure all games on the platform hit certain standards.
  • Again, the game is tested in QA, but this time, against the Certification Checklist.
  • The game is then sent to a ratings agency for various countries, and ratings certificates are secured.
  • Launch date is set, and a marketing plan begins!

It's a crazy long process, and can be a bit of a pain. But it's totally worth it! Feel free to check out my last game Pinstripe on Xbox and PS4!

Thanks everyone for your amazing support!

Everyone! Check it out, because of you, we hit the $75,000 Stretch Goal, giving Pete the ability to skate around town, and even better, skate in an old abandoned skate park! Thank you for such amazing support! I can't wait to bring this aspect of the game to life!

Believe it or not, we're just $20,000 away from the brand new, FINAL STRETCH GOAL OF Xbox and PS4! That might sound like a daunting amount to raise, but the final week of a campaign is usually much more active, so I'm pretty confident we can do it. The clock is ticking folks!

If you want to help us get there, share, share, share.

Otherwise, sit back and relax! I can't wait to make a beautiful game you will remember.

Fan Art Contest

The fan art contest has wrapped up, and I am blown away by all the amazing pieces of art! I'm working on a final video announcing the winner, so I'll keep you posted. Announcement of winner should go up tomorrow!

Game Development Update

I've finally had the opportunity to sit down and work on the game's health system. It's not much, but it's crazy how limited health makes you slow down in the game (that's a good thing!) Slowing down, and just taking in the music, environments, and story is what makes games like BOTW, Wind Waker, Hollow Knight, and might I say Pinstripe so special :) That said, health is only as fun as the combat. If the combat is frustrating and stupid, dying results in rage quitting. So I've also spent a several hours making the hit animations and sounds more juicy and satisfying!

Thanks everyone!

Sweet New Level Design + Riddle Answer + Just $400 Away From Stretch Goal!

Sweet New Level Design

As many of you have seen, there's a pinkish level that was originally in the game (see gifs on Kickstarter page). I couldn't handle how... different it looked from the rest of the game and its color palette. So I spent all day yesterday and the day before redesigning it! Here's what I've got! I also changed the name to Timberpine!

Riddle Answer

"When I'm up, I'm one of many, but when I die, you can wake me. You call it fun, I call it fighting, I'm like the god of rain and lightning. I once wore a simple grid, but now you can choose my outfit."

Who am I?

Answer: Link from The Legend Of Zelda!

Stretch Goal ALMOST Reached!

We're so close to hitting the Skateboard & Skatepark stretch goal! I am so excited about this. What's even more exciting is announcing the next stretch goal. I can't wait to share it with you.

Wanna help us get there? Retweet about the campaign now!

Fan Art Contest: FINAL DAY!

You've got 24 hours! Here's an amazing piece that I can share with you all while you work on your art, and wait for the final reveal! This one is from @MikePouch!

So creepy!
So creepy!

Thanks again everyone for your incredible support! We've got just 8 days left, and I have a feeling we're not even close to being done!

Warmly,

Thomas

Just 2K Away From Stretch Goal!

I woke up this morning, and whoa! Just when I think the campaign is slowing down, it picks back up, and I'm blown away by the support! I have a feeling we're going to hit the Skateboard stretch goal, and I gotta say, I've got some incredible ideas. Here's how it will likely work:

  • You learn a song, and just like your trusty razor blade, you are given your trusty skateboard.
  • Sure, you can skate anywhere you like! Just press down! But grass and dirt is going to be slow.
  • Pavement and wood are the best surfaces to skate on! Now you can ramp to other areas you couldn't get to.
  • Ash Cliff will be an old rundown carnival and skatepark, and the second to last level. Skate around the creepy carnival in search of your sister, and discover some creepy adults and wait for it... a clown boss!?!?!
